Fraser Coast needs a patient transfer facility at the Hervey Bay airport

The current situation is that any patient being transferred to Brisbane via the Royal Flying Doctor Service has to be moved to the plane across the open tarmac in all types of weather.

The proposed patient transfer facility will not only ensure that transfers take place under cover but will also meet a number of other specific needs as well.

The proposed facility will provide:

• An examination room so patients can be examined by the RFDS staff before transfer to the plane


• A waiting area for the patient's family so they can be there to help their loved one through a traumatic time
  
  
• Tea and coffee making facilities
  
  
• A rest area for the RFDS pilots who have to wait while the patient is being prepared for the flight. At the moment they have to wait in the cockpit of the plane to shelter from the weather.

The facility will be purpose built and we already have professional builders who have offered their services but we need to raise funds for construction materials for the building, the hard-standing area where the RFDS planes will be parked during patient transfer and the fitting-out of the building.

Once the building is ready for use the Fraser Coast Regional Council will take control of the building and maintain it.
